8 Super Easy and Fun Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Kids
Celebrate East Coast New Year
Are your kids too young to make it to midnight? Pick 9PM vs midnight if it is easier for your little
ones to stay awake and celebrate at that time. Set the clocks for the revised countdown. Have
your decorations and noise makers ready to go! Then, have a relaxing round 2 celebration once
the kids are off to bed.
Watch Your Home Videos
Remember all those home videos you’ve filmed since the kids were born? Mostly still on your phone?! Watch them together and share in the family memories. In between viewings share your favorite memories from this past year.
Have a Party
Make your own New Year’s party right in the coziness of your own home. By inviting another family with kids over to join in the fun, things will be even more festive. Dress up as if you’re going to a fancy party. Dance along to ring in the New Year.
Order from a Favorite Local Restaurant for Dinner
Try you fav or be adventurous! Kids LOVE fondue —who doesn’t love melted cheese and chocolate? If you lose your piece of bread in the pot, tradition says you have to kiss the person on your left, kiss everyone at the table, or pay a forfeit decided by others at the table. A super fun tradition to start.
Have a Family Camp In
Grab lots of pillows, blankets, stuffies, and whatever else your camping needs are and set up camp for the night. Watch movies, play games, let the kids pick out yummy snacks, and dim the lights! Have a contest to see who is still awake at midnight! The last one awake takes a photo of everyone else for proof.
Netflix Countdown to 2020
Netflix’s annual New Year’s Eve Countdown allows Netflix subscribers to countdown to the new year (at midnight, noon or whenever you’d like) with characters from programs like Super Monsters, Pinky Malinky, and Boss Baby. Simply search the Countdowns tab on your Netflix account to get started. Ring in the new year with some of your favorite TV and movie characters!
Turn your Christmas tree into a “Memory Tree”
Putting away the Christmas decorations can be a bittersweet activity. Instead of taking down all of the decorations, just take down the ornaments. Have the kids write down fun memories from the year or things they are grateful for. Now you have a memory tree!
Don’t forget to toast!
Whether you want to toast and cheers with sparkling grape juice, a root beer float or even just sparkling water, clinking in the brand-new year just wouldn't be complete without it.
